A Brief History of 718 Fort Street
The Dutch Bakery & Diner has operated at 718 Fort Street since 1956, when it was started by Kees Schaddelee. It is still owned and operated by the Schaddelee family.
Prior to 2015 it went under the name Dutch Bakery & Coffee Shop. It changed its name to Dutch Bakery & Diner in February 2015 because the owners felt that many people just thought of the business as a bakery and chocolate shop and did not know there was a restaurant on site.
Records indicate the building was originally built in 1903. We will do some research on the building’s occupants and usage prior to 1956.
