St. Joseph’s Hospital was founded on this site in 1876. This present building was built as part of St. Joseph’s Hospital in 1908.
St. Joseph’s Hospital was operated by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Victoria until 1972, when it was taken over by the B.C. Provincial Government and renamed the Victoria General Hospital.
When the present Victoria General Hospital was built in View Royal in 1983, this building continued operating as Victoria General Hospital South.
All Victoria General Hospital operations have since been moved to View Royal and this former hospital building has been converted into apartments.
This building was formally recognized by the Canadian Register of Historic Places in 2001 and was listed in 2008.
