Some Notable Architects and Builders In Victoria History
Thomas Trounce (1813-1900) was a pioneer builder and architect in Victoria. A number of his buildings are still standing and Trounce Alley, running east-west between the 1200 block of Broad Street and the 1200 block of Government Street, is named for him. Here is a partial listing of his projects.
Here are the Thomas Trounce buildings we have included on this site so far:
- 636 Broughton Street – 1005-09 Broad Street, now known as the Counting House, built in 1884-1891 for John Weiler.
- 631 Yates Street – built in 1885, the original Thomas Trounce building is still part of the current building.
- 1210-1216 Broad Street and 614-620 Trounce Alley, now known as the Exchange Building, built in 1889 for Alexander Alfred Green (1834-1891).
1005-1009 Broad Street / 636 Broughton Street – Weiler Building
The Weiler Building at 1005-1009 Broad Street and 636 Broughton Street was built as a furniture factory and warehouse by Thomas Trounce for John Weiler in 1884.
This building has had several additions in the late 19th and early 20th centuries but the original 1885 Thomas Trounce design is still standing.
